As a Japanese educator and mother raising children in Australia, I saw how important it is for children to grow up with a strong sense of identity — to feel connected to their language, culture, and the community around them.
I created Hiyoko Global Kids McDowall to be more than just a childcare centre.
I wanted to build a warm, bilingual environment where children could feel safe, proud, and free to be themselves — in both Japanese and English.
The name “Hiyoko”, which means baby chick in Japanese, reflects this vision.
Like baby chicks, children need a gentle nest — a place full of care, curiosity, and love — before they spread their wings and fly into the world.
Childcare is often a child’s first connection to society.
That’s why it matters deeply.
Hiyoko is a place where children grow not only in knowledge, but in heart and identity — becoming future global citizens with strong roots and open minds.
